Found growing on the side of a trail amid fairly dense undergrowth.

I tempted to say Asclepias purpurascens, we are a big south of it's range but possible...

Could be M. gonocarpos, they do have those ridges on the pod, but with the available information would be hesitant to say with certainty.

EnvUnlimited, thanks for the suggestion but Scarlet milkweed seems a bit tropical for north Georgia.
