Sweet Potato Bugs (Nymph)

Physomerus grossipes

Description:

These are nymphs of leaf-footed, coreid bugs, called Physomerus grossipes (Fabricius, 1794), the Sweetpotato Bugs. Spotted them in a group, huddled at the sweet potato plant. Each bug has length of about 10-12 mm (excluding antennae). This genus is considered a crop pest. When the nymphs were first spotted (pics #1-5), no adult was seen in the group. In pic #6, taken 11 days after the nymphs were spotted, an adult can be seen with a nymph. For the spotting of the adult species, pls see http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/172....
