Argiope argentata
Females are large, very distinctive orbweavers. Males are much smaller and duller in color.
A large population of this species exists among an abundance of prickly-pear cacti at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Reserve in Huntington Beach.
Apart from the cactus patch, these spiders were nowhere to be seen.
