Prairie Falcon & Northern Harrier

Falco mexicanus and Circus cyaneus

Habitat:

Rural Farmland

Notes:

I thought that I startled a Prairie Falcon while photographing, as a flew away fairly quickly. However, I quickly realized why he had taken flight. A Northern Harrier was swooping in to investigate him. The falcon landed near by and the harrier pursued him. You can see in the first photo, the falcon isn't sure if the harrier's intent is aggressive or not. However, he seemed to quickly relax as he realized that the harrier just wanted a closer look! Hey Em...I'm cleaning up the Raptor mission's unknowns, and I added the scientific names to this spotting. Hope you don't mind!! ;-)

Thanks Christy! I'm not going to win any photography awards for these, but I do really like the series and the display of behavior that is shows!
