Betel nut

Areca catechu

Description:

The areca nut is not a true nut, but rather a drupe. The tree is a medium-sized and graceful palm tree, growing straight to 20 m tall, with a trunk 10–15 cm in diameter. The leaves are 1.5–2 m long, pinnate, with numerous, crowded leaflets.

Habitat:

Tropical ever wet climates with evenly distributed rainfall of 1500–5000 mm (60–200 in); prefers elevations 0–900 m (0–2950 ft). Adapted to a wide range of soil types, although thorough drainage and high moisture holding capacity are required

Notes:

I have photographed the different stages of areca nut. I have four areca palm. These are just for BEAUTY AND NOT FOR HEALTH. The International Agency for Research on Cancer has concluded that chewing areca nut is carcinogenic to humans. It made this conclusion after reviewing the published scientific studies related to health effects of chewing areca nut.
