Golden Carpenter Ant

Description:

This is one of the biggest and more conspicuous ants in the Pacific lowland forests of Costa Rica. They nest in cavities and branches of tall live trees. The workers are often found in small, loose groups, and are mainly scavengers though they also ocassionally attend plants with extrafloral nectaries (such as Inga spp).

Habitat:

They range from Mexico through Argentina in both dry and wet tropical forests, and from sea level to middle elevations.
