Moth Fly

Description:

This Moth Fly was relatively large for a species of this family, at about 7 mm in length. They are also called Drain Flies since some species are pests in household drains. The larvae are semi-aquatic or aquatic and breathe through a small anal tube like mosquito larvae. The fine hairs of the the adults make them very resistant to water and are impossible to drown. They are also physically resistant to water-borne toxins and even boiling water. Family Psychodidae.

Habitat:

This one was found on the wall inside the house, but close to an outside door. San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters. The second picture was taken on 14 August 2018, the same species only about 5 mm in length. It was found outside the same house on a wall.
