American Caesar's Amanita

Amanita jacksonii

Description:

Large, orangish-red mushroom with a collar. Mushroom is approximately 3 to 4 inches in diameter and 4 to 5 inches in height.

Habitat:

Moist, deciduous forest in the midlands of South Carolina. Numerous oak, hickory, and related trees in immediate vicinity.

Notes:

Is this False Caesars Mushroom (Amanita parcivolvata)? Observed in the Sumter National Forest near Modoc, SC (McCormick County)
