Fomes fomentarius
A polypore body that grows on varies tree species thriving long after the tree has died, acting as a parasite eventually turning into a decomposer. As with other polypores, the F. formentarius can be used as efficient tinder. It is also commonly called hoof fungus since it looks very much like the hooves of horses. This specimen measured approximately 5 inches in height and around 4-5 inches in diameter.
Aspen and ponderosa pine dominated forest.
