Finned Grasshopper

Trachyrhachys aspera

Description:

Medium-sized, mostly non-descript grasshopper. Note bright blue hind tibiae ("shins"). Hind wings yellowish with broad black band from middle to tip, noticed when the insect flies.

Habitat:

Found on sandy, eroded trail in vast open field of weeds, grasses, yucca, and prickly-pear cacti.
