Northern Pearly Eye

Enodia anthedon

Description:

Enodia anthedon A.H. Clark, 1936. Each year these Northern Pearly Eye butterflies are spotted around the same trees growing around a field. They are easy to see, but difficult to get a picture of. When they see us they take flight and hide on a tree where they are disguised to look like the tree. Pretty butterfly that is brown with big eyes. Large.

Habitat:

Damp deciduous woods, usually near marshes or waterways; mixed or grassy woodlands

Notes:

Differs from the Pearly Eye by having orange not black antennal knobs.
