Garter Snake

Dendrelaphis caudolineatus

Description:

I saw this garter snake or striped bronzeback motionless on a branch of soursop (Annona muricata) upon approaching the tree to prune it.

Habitat:

Apprarently, the garter snake likes to wait for its prey on trees like the soursop. The garter snake is arboreal in nature. It lingered on the tree, crawling from branch to branch, for an hour at a height of about two meters above the ground.

Notes:

I seldom see this snake in my yard. Perhaps I just missed it while it stayed there. Sometimes, I can see remnants of snake skin but not of this species as it is short. Perhaps the shed skin is that of a cobra which I have seen in the past.
