Red- Bellied Woodpecker

Melanerpes carolinus

Description:

This guy was looking for Bugs in a tree at the Audubon Society Dog Wood Canyon center in Cedar Hill Texas. They are called Red-Bellied because they have some red color on their belly area its not much but it is there. They have a brilliant red head and make a weird warbling shriek when the call that sort of decrescendos. They are a medium sized Woodpecker and are fun to watch. They love peanuts and love to visit feeders.

Habitat:

Live mainly in Woodland sometimes like in my case they visit urban feeders. However they mainly live in heavily wooded areas.
