Urbanus dorantes
A large, long-tailed skipper of the Family Hesperiidae. It is brown with a pink tinge to the underside of the wings and dark brown markings. It likes to land to rest in very heavily shaded areas and is hard to see. It is also called the Lilac Banded Longtail Skipper.
Forested areas of the Sumidero Canyon National Park, Chiapa de Corzo, Chiapas, Mexico.
It has a huge distribution from Mexico through Argentina, with strays found in Florida, MIssouri, Georgia, California and Arizona.
Thank you Ken. I've seen it in other heavily shaded and forested areas in Chiapas such as the Chorreadero Park above Chiapa de Corzo where it lands under the overhanging rocks and is almost invisible.
