Yellownecked Caterpillar Moth

Datana ministra

Description:

This moth appeared to look like a rolled-up, brown leaf. The head of the moth did not stick out far from it's wings when in this position and was very fuzzy.

Habitat:

They apparently enjoy shade trees and the caterpillar is considered something of a pest due to the damage they can do to the trees on which they feed. This particular moth was found on the side of a house.

Notes:

It was very friendly, and stayed rolled-up until right before take-off, at which time it's wings took on the more familiar, moth-like, triangle shape.
