Red-banded Hairstreak

Calycopis cecrops

Description:

Small butterfly. Underside of wings are gray with a reddish-orange band crossing both sets of wings. Small orange edge to front of forwing. Hindwing has bluish and black, ringed with orange spots. Two small tails on each hindwing.

Habitat:

Bayard Cutting Arboretum. Cultivated flower garden. Feeding on Bee Balm (I believe).

Notes:

This one seems to have had a brush with a predator and survived.
