A worldwide community photographing and learning about wildlife
Hypocala rostrata
Eventually I have found the correct ID for this moth.
Thanks Nuwan and everybody who's been trying to ID this one! Much appreciated!
thanks bayucca, i have no information on it's host plant except the wiki page !
Good job, Nuwan! I knew it was a Noctuidae. But now you have to explain us, what this guy is doing in South Africa! ;-)...
On possible explanation might be that it (or maybe eggs or caterpillars with plants/crops) was introduced from India by people who are working there. As I remember there is a large Indian community in RSA. Do you have information about the host plant in India?
im sure it's Hypocala subsatura, but no records from your area!

Bayucca, this one reminds me of Hypena genus as well as Bomolocha. After much searching of images available on the web and in my books, I'm still stumpified. (yeah, I made that word up)
I have even checked al my European ones... In my eyes it really must be a Noctuidae and I have also checked other families, no match... I will keep an eye on this one.
