Good job, Nuwan! I knew it was a Noctuidae. But now you have to explain us, what this guy is doing in South Africa! ;-)...
On possible explanation might be that it (or maybe eggs or caterpillars with plants/crops) was introduced from India by people who are working there. As I remember there is a large Indian community in RSA. Do you have information about the host plant in India?

Bayucca, this one reminds me of Hypena genus as well as Bomolocha. After much searching of images available on the web and in my books, I'm still stumpified. (yeah, I made that word up)

I have even checked al my European ones... In my eyes it really must be a Noctuidae and I have also checked other families, no match... I will keep an eye on this one.
