Lophonetta specularioides
It is a large duck (50-60 cm) and very territorial. Very trusting to the human presence. In Chile it is distributed from the extreme north to Magallanes
They feed on larvae and marine vegetation. In the north of the country it feeds in inland waters, while in the extreme south, it feeds in coastal areas
A distinctive, fairly large duck that is common in wetlands, lakes, bogs, slow rivers, and along shores. The sexes are alike: mostly grayish-brown in color with contrasting pale mottling on the sides of the body, a darker face, and a short bushy crest (often difficult to see); dark gray bill and legs. In flight, notice the large white panel on the trailing edge of the wing (similar to the Flying Steamer-Duck, which has a heavier body and is rarely seen in flight). Typically reddish eyes in Patagonia and orange in the northern Andes.
