Tulip-tree Beauty

Epimecis hortaria

Description:

A night moth the side of a half dollar. The color found on this beauty is Brown, Tan, and Power White. The feelers have hair flaring out from them.

Habitat:

Woodland and Grassy Areas

Notes:

I was painting my fish tank black when this pretty little thing made its way into my house while opening the door. I let it camp out for a while before releasing it out into the wild.

Geometridae, Ennominae, Epimecis hortaria. Look at the following link and you will be wondering how variable it can be! From the markings I think it is Epimecis hortaria: http://bugguide.net/node/view/564/bgimag...

I'm not sure which device you are using, but you might try swiping the category bar to see more selections. They should all be listed but there are more than can be viewed at one time. Take care!

Nice spotting, Noel. When you get a moment, will you please edit this entry and move this to the Arthropods category? Thanks and good luck with an ID. I think we've got a few moth fans who might be able to assist. :-)
