Eurasian Wigeon

Description:

Similar in appearance to the American Wigeon. Male Eurasion Wigeons in breeding season have cream colored crown and the head is a rusty color. The chest is a pinkish color and the back and flanks are grey with white belly and black rear. The females are a lighter brown more similar to the female American Wigeon.

Habitat:

Open wetlands, shallow lakes and ponds.

Notes:

spotted these in the same small lake with Mergansers, Mallards, Goldeneyes and Canada Geese.

Brant Goose are coming in. Some spotted in Richmond. And there has been a Black Scoter in Richmond I tried 2 times to find and still haven't spotted it.

Great find, rare indeed! I just got my second Tundra Swan IN TEXAS yesterday. Have to love rare bird alerts. Congrats on getting yours.

Pretty much rare or uncommon. Less rare then the Tufted Duck. Might find a few in a flock of Americans. I get emails from our local Audubon and alert me what birds have been spotted. I kept missing these. Then one guy said this lake had them.
