Not sure what these are. There appeared to be a "tail" that folded over the top of their back when disturbed. They are soft and didn't appear to have any sort of exoskeleton.

Larvae of something... and I have a horrid feeling that the brown stuff on top might be poop. I was just reading an article about leaf beetle larvae that cover their backs with their own poop to form a kind of faecal shield: http://thebuggeek.com/2012/12/13/poop-no...
