Bougainvillea

Bougainvillea sp.

Description:

A South American native now cosmopolitan throughout the warm regions of the world. The flower of this plant is not the bright colorful "petals" for which this plant is known and beloved (--these are really modified leaves known as bracts), but is actually small and white (see the 4th photo). These latter might be more conspicuous in this spotting http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/724...

Habitat:

An ornamental planted from a cutting in a semi-urban environment of houses, yards & gardens and patches of remnant forest. This is in the equatorial tropics of northern New Guinea.

Notes:

A shaft of sunlight penetrated the canopy to illuminate this beautiful branch of flowers.
