Haetera piera

Description:

Subfamily Satyrinae, a Haetera sp. I was thinking this is either Haetera macleannia or H. piera. See comments in the discussion, I am labeling as H. piera.

Habitat:

Tropical rain forest, very close to Río Negro.

Notes:

Just north of Novo Airão. Some species of Haetera.

Thanks to all for commenting! Dominik, I think what you say makes a lot of sense. Also, most of the type localities for the subspecies of P. piera are from western South America, except for one from Cuba and some doubt was raised whether that locality label (Cuba) was in error. Thank-you!

Yes, Piera or Macleannania. I slightly would tend to Piera. In BOA range is to W Ecuador, that should mean, probably not found so far in the east of the Amazon Bassin. Piera has in my eyes more yellow/orange patches at the base of the hindwing, the other one more brownish/reddish ones. Stripes look usually broader in Macleannania. But these might be different to judge on a photograph, depending on light angulation and use of flash. What do you think?
