Geotrichum candidum
Doing a project at the science center to teach kids about fungus in foods both good and bad. Geotrichosis fungus, as the name kinda suggests is a fungus that can cause Geotrichosis. This can come in many forms, none of which are fun. The most frequent of which is pulmonary geotrichosis. It gives you symptoms similar to the secondary symptoms of tuberculosis. Despite this, it is also used in culturing the rinds of certain cheeses, Brie included. So since I already had a hunk of brie covered in P. Camemberti I figured I'd show the little blooms on the cheese that are this fungus taking hold and teach the kids about it as a bonus.
Can be cultured from soils worldwide.
