Chipping Sparrow

Spizella passerina

Description:

This is my last spotting of a bird in South Dakota. This small gray brown chipping sparrow has a clear gray chest, rusty crown, white eyebrows with a black eye line. Has a thin gray black bill and two faint wing bars. Female same as male.

Habitat:

You can find chipping sparrows in open woodlands and forests with grassy clearings across North America. This particular sparrow was spotted in a tree located in a campground within the Black Hills National Forest in Keystone, South Dakota.
