Striped Tiger Butterfly

Danaus genutia

Description:

Looks a lot like the Monarch in colouring but it is not; this is India's Common Tiger or Striped Tiger.

Habitat:

On an Ixora plant. Urban residential area. We have been absolutely inundated by the heavy and incessant rains for the past couple of months but the plants are lush and green. Butterflies were scant in the last few days but today afternoon when the sun came out, the bedraggled beauties went in search of some nourishment. I was on the terrace as everything outside is flooded and wading in dirty water is never recommended...caught this butterfly using the zoom to max.

Notes:

This butterfly sequesters toxins from its host plants as is distasteful to predators.
