Big butterfly, 5-9 cm wingspan. The upperside is orange-brown with darker wing bases. The forewing has a black apex patch and a white bar on the leading edge. The hindwing has a submarginal row of 5 small black spots which sometimes has blue scales. The underside has a black, brown, and gray pattern with 4 small submarginal eyespots.
One of the most widespread of all butterflies, found on every continent except Antarctica and South America. Spotted at the mountains in a heathland area. Parque Nacional de Sierra de Guadarrama
