Ashy Pit Viper

Trimeresurus puniceus

Description:

35cm in size (approx.) including the prehensile tail. Brown pattern with dark blotches, a light streak behind the eyes. The colour difference on the pics is due the use of flash.

Habitat:

Spotted during a raining morning walk at Kebun Raya Cibodas, a 80ha area above 1.400 metres high, mix of botanical park with big trees & palms and surrounded by a rainforest at the foot of Gene volcano, Java - Indonesia, it is also found in Thailand and Malaysia.

Notes:

Trimeresurus puniceus common names includes, Ashy Pit Viper, Flat-nosed pitviper, Wirot's pit viper and Siamese palm viper. The IUCN Red List categorizes the species as Least Concern.
