White pelican

Pelecanus erythrorhynchos

Description:

I was surprised to see white pelicans in Wyoming. It is a large, white bird found in North America. They have broad, white-and-black wings. Their large heads and huge, heavy bills give them a prehistoric look.

Habitat:

These birds prefer estuaries and lakes. I spotted white pelicans flying over Beck Lake in Cody, Wyoming.
