Common Christmas Beetle

Description:

A scarab beetle with beautiful cream colored elytra, orange thorax and head and reddish brown legs.

Habitat:

Garden

Notes:

This one was about to take-off hence the slightly parted wings ! Larvae of these beetles feed on leaf detritus and emerge as adults mid-spring.

Lovely! I remember seeing these all the time as a kid, but I hardly ever see them now.

Christmas beeetle! I remember a trip with dad in the VW to NSW where we encountered heaps of these one summer.
