Yellow Nutsedge

Cyperus esculentus

Description:

Long, slender, shiny green leaves without hairs. Triangular stem. Single stem which produces spikelets at the ends where the flowers are produced. Flowers are yellow. Produces tubers which are edible.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden.

Notes:

Considered an invasive agricultural weed in some places but is also grown as a crop. Found growing invasively in our garden when we weren't weeding regularly.
