Junonia evarete
Photographed on the sandy ground where I found it in thin vegetation.
Thank you, Tom. I asked because a close examination of this caterpillar has me wondering if it might in fact be an immature Mangrove Buckeye (J. genoveva), which we now believe has coastal and inland populations that utilize different hostplants.
The location I found this caterpillar was in the area at the top of the falls at Kaieteur Falls. There's plenty of damp and swampy areas up there.
Tom, was this caterpillar spotted perhaps closer to the Guyanese coast than the Google map indicates? You mentioned sandy ground, so was this possibly a brackish riverine habitat with mangrove shrubs or trees growing in the area? Thanks.
