Showy Milkweed

Asclepias speciosa

Description:

plant about 2 feet tall, cluster of pink ball type buds which open into a white star. Leaves are strong and waxy. Photo 2 shows the pink outer petals of the flower folded back to reveal the white star petals.

Habitat:

Along the Kettle River riparian zone with cottonwoods crowding the river and Ponderosa Pines in the dryer area behind.
