I believe it was dead, as it looked a bit dried up compared to live ones I have seen and it also had algae growing on it.
On Alabama Supplejack (Berchemia scandens - see https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/68...) under cabbage palmetto and oak uphill of the salt marsh. Redfish Hole Trail
