Serinus serinus
The Serin Serin is the smallest European finch (canary, finch, greenfinch, goldfinch, siskin, etc.) (11-12 cm and 8.5-14 g). In both males and females, the back is striated with brown and yellow tones, and a yellow rump. However, the males have a strong lemon yellow color in different areas of the head, as well as in the throat, chest and abdomen. However, in females these parts have rather brownish-greyish tones. The juveniles are similar to the females but they do not present practically any yellow zone.
Urban garden. Jardín del Río Turia. Valencia. It inhabits both open forest areas and parks with trees.
The males, very conspicuous for their yellow colours, are among the birds that give early warning of spring with their characteristic songs.
