Growing among bushes and grasses on a peninsular, by the beach.

Thanks machi. Yes this looks like the one. i remember them pink and yellow in Africa, but these flowers were old, so may have become faded. I'll go with this... thanks !

thanks Anjana. Looked at the links for M. pudica, and all the images shown had pink flowers. This may be a different species.

Mimosa pudica (from Latin: pudica "shy, bashful or shrinking"; also called sensitive plant and sleepy plant) is a creeping annual or perennial herb of the pea family Fabaceae often grown for its curiosity value: the compound leaves fold inward and droop when touched or shaken, defending themselves from harm, and re-open a few minutes later. The species is native to South America and Central America, but is now a pantropical weed. It grows mostly in shady areas, under trees or shrubs.
