Myrmeleontidae
one of africa's "little 5" the antlion family has about 2000 species. The larva builds conical traps in the sand, into which ants fall and with the help of the larva kicking sand, end up in the jaws of the waiting antlion larva. Adults, although winged, have a very weak faltering flight and are generally seen resting on walls near lights
Our guide at Bongani lodge in mthethomusha reserve dug this one up for us to see.
We saw many adults during our trip.
