Agriocnemis pygmaea
Odonata; Zygoptera; Coenagrionidae; Agriocnemis pygmaea (Rambur, 1842). I have a slight problem with my identification of these copulating Damselfly couples. I suspect that they may be Androchrome Form, but I cannot see the orange tip of the abdomen in the male or the female. I understand that the female colours change to look like the male in Androchrome, but neither have the orange.
I spotted all three copulating couples on the same day and at the same time at the far end of the rice field behind our house. This part of the field gets too much shade from some very tall stands of bamboo. So the rice in that last few meters of the field is always invaded and overcome by some grasses and foliage which prefer shade and that is where I saw these specimens.
The point I mention in the descriptive notes above has me concerned that I may have misidentified these copulating couples because of the lack of orange on the tail segments. I am almost afraid to send this spotting to the mission "Odonata in the Philippines" in case I embarrass myself with a wrong I.D. Any advice?
