False turkey-tail fungus

Stereum ostrea

Description:

False turkey tail has a tendency to grow in the shape of a funnel. On top it has concentric zones of brown, white, grey and green (introduced from algae). The bottom side is smooth and reddish brown (pic 6). This log was almost completely covered with Stereum ostrea (pic 4).

Habitat:

Spotted on a rotting log in a mixed forest at Garvan Woodland Gardens.
