Teuthraustes gervaisii (female)

Description:

Maternal care scorpion-style! Female of about 3.5cm, excluding the tail. Black/dark brown colouration, with a load of youngsters on her back.

Habitat:

Found in city park, in Cuenca, in the Ecuadorian Andes at about 2500m above sea level.

Thanks, Jim! Probably more of a survival strategy, wouldn't go near that stinger though.

I do not know if spiders have a maternal instinct...this one looks like it could hold its own if it had to.
