Western tiger swallowtail

Description:

Large (7-10cm) butterfly, bright yellow, with conspicuous stripes(tiger) and a striped yellow and black body. It is feeding on the butterfly bush (Buddleia) growing in my garden to attract insects. It is very seldom still, i only see the adults. Western Tiger Swallowtails are bright lemon yellow with wide black tiger stripes and a single tail. (Northwest Butterflies)

Habitat:

Gardens, as well as in rural woodlands and riparian (river) areas.

Notes:

These two pictures are 4 years apart. This species of butterfly is a regular visitor to the butterfly bush.
