Shaggy Mane

Coprinus comatus

Description:

White, irregular, oval shaped fungi growning in a colony. The largest was about 2 inches in diameter. Note that this growth occured in the inside face of a grader trench at the top of a massive mound of topsoil (see picture #4) in soil that was exposed to the air only a few days prior.

Notes:

Found in freshly distrubed soil along the crest line of a massive pile of top soil. Catepillar graders were in the process of returning the soil to a field after the housing collapse had brought building to a halt. Farming resumed in the field once platted for housing and continues to this day.
