American goldfinch

Description:

This is the male American goldfinch with his beautiful bright yellow and black colors. They are members of the finch family. Their size is about 4-5 inches long, with a wingspan of 7-9 inches.

Habitat:

Found in patches of thistles and weeds, roadsides, open woods. This American goldfinch was spotted in a field near Beck Lake, Cody, Wyoming.

Notes:

The goldfinch is the state bird of Washington, Iowa, and New Jersey.
