Buff-tailed Bumble Bee

Description:

Large bee approx. 2cm long, pic 2 shows the bee's extended tongue while feeding from a flower, pic three shows a bee with pollen scattered all over its face. Pic 4 shows a bee returning to the nest (a hole in the ground) with its hind legs covered in pollen. Nests maybe 2m into the ground and contain 350 workers.

Habitat:

Nest found in a shaded forest of mixed deciduous species.

Notes:

B. lucorum is a very similar species.
