Brown-banded Ichneumon Wasp

Lissonota sp

Description:

About 20mm long this orange-coloured wasp had distinctive pale yellow markings on the thorax and long antennae with a single yellow band. Femurs showed black bands. Eyes had a pale ring around them. Wings plain, veined and dark. Appeared to have a moderate-sized proboscis, but unsure about this. A short sting seen at the rear end of abdomen

Habitat:

eucalyptus forests

Notes:

Unfortunately this wasp was spotted at night, high up on a dusty glass pane and it did not move lower. It probably feeds on lerp honeydew
