Ring-billed gull

Larus delawarensis

Description:

Gulls in nonbreeding plumage have some fine dark streaking on head and their yellow or greenish yellow legs may be duller than usual. They have a pale eye, a light grey mantle, and a black ring around their bill.

Habitat:

Lakes, bays, coasts, piers, plowed fields

Notes:

Even though most birders do not admire these seabirds' grace, gulls have always given me a sense of adventure. Like a sailor getting ready to depart on a journey.
