Spinybacked Orbweaver

Gasteracantha cancriformis

Description:

A black and white variety of spinybacked orbweaver. This species varies in color, mainly depending on the region in which it is found.

Habitat:

Found in Arkansas in the Cadron Settlement park, in a densely forested (deciduous) area under the canopy. She'd built her web between trunks of tall trees.

Notes:

They are also called Crablike Spiny Orbweavers, Jewel Spiders, and Smiley Face Spiders.
