Large flightless bird native to Australia. Lays large greenish blue hard eggs that can be carved.

Habitat:

Dry bush land in regional Australia

Notes:

Seen on road between Cunnamulla and Charleville. Common for this region.

Thanks Shanna! I've only seen them on that stretch of the road and also between StGeorge and Cunnamulla. Have also seen pigs, lambs, cows, roos, and goats all wandering on road! And now the horse hehe So fun to see. Thanks for the link - will check it out.

Great spot Lisa, I was disappointed that I didn't see a single emu the last time I was in Central Queensland! You can update your spotting with the emu's scientific name - it's Dromaius novaehollandiae. (Here's a great site for finding bird IDs: http://www.birdsinbackyards.net)
