Accipiter cooperii
This immature Coopers Hawk is almost to adult hood. The last time I saw him was when he had brown streaks on his chest, as you can see, these markings are turning a brick-red color, and his back is getting darker, along with his now-red eye.
Suburban areas and Deciduous forests.
I constantly see this particular Cooper in my neighborhood all the time. I've seen him hunt before, but I never expected to see him in my own backyard with a Grackle. In the end he flew off with his prey, and left a mess of feathers in the yard. (The last picture is the Grackles feathers).

awesome!
Thank you Macaw
I was extremely surprised to see him in the yard, especially with a grackle in his talons!
Wow really lucky shot! You Don't see this every day from your bedroom window!
I should also mention that I took this photo from my bedroom window. (I had to lift up the screen but it was well worth it).
Thank you both! I enjoy when they cover their prey with their wings to prevent escape, it's such a smart idea.
Poor crow! This spotting could go in the Hunters and Animal Feeding Behavior mission at http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/8463...
Thank you Alice!
Good series, nice story!
