Maianthemum dilatatum
A beautiful vine-like plant with large heart shaped leaves and trailing stems with round yellow marble-like fruits with red spots. Growing close to the ground.
Totem Bight State Park, Ketchikan, Alaska.
The berries are edible, spotted when immature and bright red when ripe. See the reference for a picture of the flower, which is beautiful!
Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated Lauren!
Thank you so much Machi! I knew you would know what it was and was hoping you would see it. What an appropriate name, Snakeberry!
